Who we are

Aquarius Lion Productions is a New York City–based independent film company known for its diverse and globally aware storytelling. With over 30 projects under its belt—including feature films, documentaries, and shorts—the company focuses on stories that explore identity, culture, and what connects us as humans. Its work reflects a strong commitment to creating films that resonate across different backgrounds and communities.

Ahmed Barbary is an Egyptian-born film and television post-production professional whose career bridges technology and storytelling. Based in New York City, he is the Founder of Aquarius Lions. Currently, he serves as the Director of Engineering at Picture Shop NY, a division of Streamland Media, where he leads technical operations for high-profile studio and independent projects. His recent credits include work on major productions such as The Little Mermaid (2023), The Square (2013), and the Academy Award–winning Free Solo (2018).

Before joining Picture Shop, Barbary held key technical and supervisory roles at leading post-production facilities including Goldcrest Post, Sim NYC, and Saboteur Media. His career began as a 3D artist at Pixie Studios before transitioning into post-production supervision, collaborating with companies such as Bold Innovative Gigs, O’ Production, and Noujaim Films.

With a background in computer science, Barbary’s passion for cinema led him to bridge the worlds of engineering and storytelling. Over five years working as a post-production supervisor between Dubai and the United States, he developed a distinctive global perspective and technical fluency that have become hallmarks of his work.

His diverse filmography includes acclaimed documentaries and feature films such as Free Solo, The Square, Hell on Earth: The Fall of Syria and the Rise of ISIS, and The Letter Room. Recognized for his innovative vision and deep technical expertise, Barbary continues to shape the evolving landscape of modern post-production, blending artistry and precision to bring filmmakers’ visions to life.

Waleed Bedour is an Egyptian-born film director and storyteller whose work bridges cultures and emotions with a bold cinematic voice. Based in New York City, Bedour earned his MFA in Film Directing from Brooklyn College’s Feirstein Graduate School of Cinema in 2021. His acclaimed short film Hawawshi captivated audiences at more than 25 international festivals, including Dances With Films: LA and the San Jose International Short Film Festival. His latest work, Dead Winter, is set to make its festival debut in 2025.

Born in Cairo, Bedour’s path to filmmaking began with a foundation in engineering—he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering in 1998—before discovering his true passion for cinema. In 2004, under the mentorship of legendary Egyptian filmmaker Ra’afat El Meehi, he completed a diploma in filmmaking and began a journey defined by curiosity, craftsmanship, and vision.

Since then, Bedour has directed music videos, commercials, and short films that have resonated on screens around the world. His collaborations with leading global brands such as Samsung, Danone, McDonald’s, and Hardee’s showcase his dynamic ability to merge visual artistry with emotional storytelling.

Currently, Bedour is developing two feature films—Green Paradise and The Desert Knight—continuing his pursuit of powerful, visually driven narratives that explore human resilience, identity, and the universal language of film.
